The prototype of this icon is said to have been an icon
from Chersonysos (Korsun), a Greek port situated in the
Crimea near Sebastopol.This is a distinctive variation of
the 'Eleusa' or 'Tenderness' type of Madonna, with the
Mother of God pressing Christ'.
